FAQ

Warranty

  • How long is the warranty period?

We offer a warranty of two years. If you have any questions about the warranty of your product please send an email to warranty@secrid.com.

  • Something is broken/not working well in my Cardprotector/wallet. What should I do?

We offer a warranty of two years. Within this two year period, you can take your product together with your proof of purchase to your Secrid dealer for replacement or repair. Your retailer will then contact us to deal with the situation.

  • My cards fall out of my Cardprotector, what can I do?

The construction is designed for plastic cards of standard credit card size. Cards that are narrower can become loose and fall out. Cards that are wider can damage the mechanism or cause other cards to become loose and fall out. You can first try to change the cards and to briefly bend them and to turn around cards that are curved. It also works sometimes to roughen up the felt slightly on the inside of the Cardprotector. This is done by first removing the cards and then moving the sharp edge of a key gently over the felt on the inside of the Cardprotector. If this does not work, please take your product together with your proof of purchase to your Secrid dealer for replacement or repair. Your retailer will then contact us to deal with the situation.

Safety

  • How does wireless hacking work?

A major disadvantage of RFID technology is that the cards can be hacked remotely. This option is already available with a smart phone or a device that is easy to obtain via internet. Without the owner of the card noticing, the identity of a card can be easily read and copied. These cards, such as the public transportation pass, new credit cards and admission tickets, can be activated, read out and copied from up to many meters away. The frequencies of the RFID tag do not penetrate through the Cardprotector, thus the Secrid Cardprotector protects against the unauthorized reading and copying of data.

  • What is RFID, EMV and NFC?

RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification. This technology makes identification possible using radio waves. RFID cards incorporate a chip and an antenna for wireless communication and can thus be read remotely. The advantage of RFID is convenience. You do not have to remove your card from your wallet in order to pay. Paying is easier and takes less time. The radio waves do not penetrate through metal.

The letters EMV come from the original initiators of this technology - Europay, MasterCard and VISA. EMV technology operates on the basis of a chip and makes the sensitive magnetic superfluous. The exchange comes about when you insert the card into a device; physical contact is required between the chip and the device.

Near Field Communication or NFC is a wireless method of communication. NFC generally has a range of about 10 centimetres. NFC is also viewed as an extension of radio frequency identification (RFID). The technical principle of NFC cards is, as far as we can tell, identical to that of RFID cards.

  • How do I recognise a RFID card?

Many public transport cards, business access cards and the latest credit and debit cards have an RFID or NFC tag. RFID cards can be recognised by one of the following logos:

    RFID

  • Does the Cardprotector also protect against strong magnets?

The Secrid Cardprotector protects against magnetic radiation to a limited degree. It is not possible to block magnetic radiation completely, therefore we recommend to always use caution with strong magnets near the cardholder. Secrid wallets offer more protection against magnetic fields than just the Cardprotector, purely because of the different materials with air in-between. The most frequent damage to magnetic strips comes from phones with strong magnets in combination with a card with a weak magnetic strip.

How it works / product

  • Where can I find directions for use?

With every Secrid product comes directions for use. The digital version of the directions for use can be found through this link

  • How many cards fit into a Secrid Cardprotector or wallet?

The aluminium Cardprotector safely stores up to six cards. The mechanism is already functional using only one card, therefore you are not restricted by a minimum number of cards in the Cardprotector.

The maximum storage capacity of the Cardprotector depends on the thickness of your cards and whether the cards are embossed.
The interior in the leather of the Miniwallet, Slimwallet and Twinwallet offers an additional storage capacity of four cards. However, the cards stored in the leather interior of the wallets are not thoroughly protected against RFID theft.

  • What does the Cardprotector protect against?

The aluminium Cardprotector optimally protects your six most important cards, both against bending and breaking and against your RFID cards being scanned if you don't want them to be (such as the transportation pass, ID card, the latest credit cards and business cards). In a normal wallet, RFID cards cannot be stored safely. RFID cards can be activated, read and copied at a distance of up to 30 meters, without you noticing a thing. To safely use an RFID card, you slide it out 3 cm from the Cardprotector; the radio signal is then substantially reduced, but still sufficient for contact over a short distance. By minimising the time duration and signal strength, you remain outside the reach of digital pickpockets. The Cardprotector protects against magnets to a limited degree.

  • Something else is not working well in my Cardprotector/wallet, what should I do?

You can take your question or complaint to your Secrid dealer.

  • How do I keep the leather of my Secrid wallet beautiful?

It is not necessary to grease your Secrid wallet with shoe polish to keep the leather nice. Nearly all of our leathers are full grain leathers with a completely natural colouring (aniline). In particular, the vintage leathers (black, blue, brown, cognac, grey and taupe vintage) have a high wax content. This leather is sensitive to scratches, but the scratches are easily rubbed out. By rubbing with the fingers over the leather, the scratches and stains - to a certain degree - will disappear. This type of leather ages beautifully. The leather starts to shine and, because of the all-natural and transparent dyes, the natural grain of the skin remains beautifully visible.

If you keep a wallet made of this vintage leather in your pocket together with hard objects (coins or keys), the scratch effect is stronger and the leather surface will not be restored by itself. In that case, you can polish the leather with a little clear shoe polish. Our black leather - also a natural grain - is, in practice, the least scratch-sensitive colour in the range.

Counterfeit

  • Is Secrid being copied?

Secrid’s success is inspiring others. Variations and imitations of our product are already in circulation. In some of these cases the counterfeit products are even provided with our Secrid logo. The counterfeit products originate mainly from China and Turkey.

  • How can I recognize a counterfeit?

Many of the copies have tell-tale differences (material, lever, type of leather, logo). In a few cases the copies look deceptively similar to the original, including our logo. The quality of these copies usually ranges from bad to very bad. The examples we have tested ourselves have an average lifespan of a few months. These counterfeit products are on sale at markets, fairs, online platforms, online stores and by brick stores not included in our store locator.

  • What characterizes original Secrid products?

Secrid manufactures exclusively in the Netherlands. In this way we can guarantee high quality and environmental standards and good working conditions.
